Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 351 PM ChST Thu Jun 30 2016 .Synopsis... Gentle to moderate trade winds dominate the forecast area. Increased cloudiness and weather are expected as a weak circulation moves south of Guam by Sunday. && .Discussion... Generally fair weather for the next few days. Light winds on Friday and Saturday will set up favorable conditions for island thunderstorms in the afternoon especially over Guam. But the more interesting weather maker may be a circulation moving far south of Guam on Sunday. Although it will remain south of the Marianas, a surface trough extending from this will increase convection and along with an upper level trough may spawn isolated thunderstorms. && .Marine... Ritidian, Ipan and Tanapag buoy data show combined seas of around 4 feet. Expect a slight increase at the end of the week. && .Eastern Micronesia... Visible satellite shows fair weather across much of Micronesia from Chuuk to Majuro. Showers and thunderstorms are seen south and east of Majuro and north of Pohnpei. Weak circulations are seen west of Chuuk and northwest of Pohnpei...and a near-equatorial trough south of Majuro. The two areas of disturbed weather will shift west the next few days with showery weather shifting west as well over the islands. A drier near-term forecast will be replaced by wetter conditions over the weekend. Models are showing more showers with the disturbance near Majuro...bringing scattered showers to Majuro on Saturday and Sunday...and Kosrae on Sunday and Monday. Similar weather is possible at Pohnpei and Chuuk early next week as a weak surface trough extends eastward along 6N to 8N. In the long-term...GFS hints at another disturbance that could bring showery weather to the Marshall Islands early next week. && .Western Micronesia... Reasoning for the Chuuk forecast is included under the Eastern Micronesia section above. Made only minor changes to Yap and Koror forecast based on latest obs...satellite animation and model guidance. The monsoon trough is situated just north of Koror and near Yap and extends eastward to a weak circulation just west of Chuuk. Gentle winds the next few days will gradually become moderate as the monsoon flow strengthens over the region. Weather trend favors a little more moisture the next few days at Koror...so extended the period of scattered showers to cover the weekend. Long-term forecast hinges on the possibility of the monsoon trough linking to a circulation east of Yap early next week. All locations in Palau received adequate rainfall and the country was no longer in drought. Even though the Weather Service Office in Palau received only 8.28 inches of rain, more than 8 inches below average, the trend was for more rainfall. The southern island of Peleliu saw 5.90 inches of rain by mid-month which was more than average.
All locations in Yap received adequate rainfall and the State was no longer in drought. Even though the Weather Service Office in Yap received 10.03 inches of rain which was still 5.01 inches below average. The atoll of Woleai experienced above 12 inches of rain|by mid-month which was more than average.
While many islands and atolls of the Marshall islands are still experiencing dry conditions the trend is for more rain to fall.
By mid-month some areas were experiencing more rain than average and the country|was no longer in drought.
Rainfall continue to increase in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and the drought level fell from level 3 (extreme) to level 2 (severe). While still dry, by the end of the month Rota was no longer in drought.
