A human-ignited wildfire rapidly grew out of control near the community of Willow, Alaska. Gusty northeast winds and low RHs caused the fire to expand very quickly, threatening structures and causing immediate evacuation. The highest loss of structures occurred during the first few days following the fire, when northerly wind flow pushed the fire toward the most densely populated area. 55 structures were lost, 44 were damaged, and 800 people evacuated.
