A blaze, started by 7-year-old twin brothers playing with a lighter, blackened more than 1000 acres of brush in West Oahu near Makakilo. The fire forced residents of about 20 homes to evacuate the area for three days, and one home suffered minor damage of a scorched wall and door.

A blaze, started by 7-year-old twin brothers playing with a lighter, blackened more than 1000 acres of brush in West Oahu near Makakilo. The fire forced residents of about 20 homes to evacuate the area for three days, and one home suffered minor damage of a scorched wall and door. The blaze continued to smolder and occasionally reignite in inaccessible areas through the end of the month. No serious injuries were reported.

A TRADE WIND WEATHER PATTERN CAN BE EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS AS HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS CENTERED FAR TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE STATE. CLOUDS AND PASSING SHOWERS WILL TEND TO FAVOR WINDWARD AND MAUKA AREAS WITH A FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE OVER SOME LEEWARD LOCATIONS. && .DISCUSSION... AN AREA OF SHOWERY LOW CLOUDS IS PRESENTLY MOVING INTO THE ISLANDS FROM THE EAST PROVIDING FOR SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS OVER WINDWARD AND MAUKA AREAS WITH JUST A FEW SHOWERS BEING BLOWN OVER TO SOME LEEWARD LOCATIONS OF THE SMALLER ISLANDS. AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO PERSIST FAR TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE STATE FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. THIS WILL KEEP THE ISLANDS IN A TRADE WIND PATTERN. HOWEVER THE HIGH IS EXPECTED TO WEAKEN A BIT LATER THIS WEEKEND AND ON INTO NEXT WEEK RESULTING IN A SLIGHT DROP OFF IN TRADE WIND SPEEDS. MOISTURE EMBEDDED IN THE TRADES WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE SCATTERED SHOWERS FOR WINDWARD AND MAUKA LOCATIONS WITH JUST A FEW POSSIBLE OVER SOME LEEWARD LOCATIONS AS WELL. && .AVIATION...
