A high amplitude ridge was centered over the western U.S. with surface high located in eastern New Mexico. Precipitable water values ranged from 1.25 to 2 inches, and a flash flood watch was in effect for the area. Monsoon storms fired ahead of a cyclonic circulation which was located in northern Sonora. Numerous showers and thunderstorms moved north through southern Arizona, causing severe winds and flash flooding mainly in the Tucson area.

MEYER/RASMUSSENThe Tucson radar (KEMX), 103 km away, was scanning. The volume nearest the first event began at 14:19 UTC.
4 flash flood, 2 thunderstorm wind. Local standard time, as filed.
Local law enforcement reports water flowing over Route 35 at mile marker 6.
Ryan Field AWOS measured a wind gust to 59 mph.
Local media reports a portion of a roof was blown off of a residence on the 300 block of North Schrader Lane.
Emergency Management reported that Sandario Road was closed near Snyder Hill Road. Water up to 2 feet deep was flowing over the road causing it to be impassable. Swift water rescue occurred late in the evening at this location when a woman drove into a wash and got stuck. At the time of the rescue, no barricades were up to indicate road had been closed.
Law enforcement reported three road closures due to flash flooding around 1500 LST: Tangerine Road between Dove Mountain and I-10; Moonfire Road at Silverbell; and Silverbell Road south of Ina. At 1645 LST, broadcast media reported that a swift water rescue occurred at Snow Leopard Drive south of the intersection of Linda Vista and Camino de Oeste.
Over 2 inches of rain fell on the spotter's property. This caused sheet flooding which washed out fences on the property.
