The drought that began in June 2012 lingered through July 2013. Exceptional (D4) drought conditions began the month over the central sandhills then lessened as convective rains moved across the area. At the end of the month the drought impact ranged from Extreme in portions of western Nebraska down to abnormally dry in the far north and north central. Precipitation for the month showed a range from a half inch to over 10 inches, with higher amounts in Hooker and Cherry counties that were beneficial in reducing the drought impacts.
