An upper low was located over southern Kentucky on the morning of the 19th, with a shortwave trough extending into northern Georgia. Tropical moisture prevailed over Georgia as well. Widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms developed across a portion of north Georgia early in the morning and moved slowly south. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches occurred in less than 6 hours prior to 700 AM EST in an area from Dawsonville to Gainesville to Lawrenceville to Roswell. Significant flash flooding occurred with major damage to roads and bridges near Flowery Branch. Another 3 to 7 inches of rain occurred in 6 hours after 700 AM EST in a portion of northwest Georgia from Trenton to LaFayette to Calhoun and Cartersville to Rome and Summerville. Both heavy rain events caused widespread flash flooding and minor river flooding. As the instability increased during the day, the thunderstorms became more intense. Many of the thunderstorms were able to reach severe levels during the afternoon hours, causing primarily wind damage, with only isolated reports of large hail.

The Gwinnett Times reported that a large tree was blown down, which broke five to six power poles.
The USGS stream gage on the Etowah River reached flood stage of 13 feet. The river crest at 15.9 feet. Moderate flooding occurred with several road closures. Etowah River Road was completely washed out where the dirt portion of it parallels the river. The road is expected to be closed for the next 2 weeks for repairs. A landslide occurred on a portion of Georgia Highway 53 near War Hill Park Road. Two feet of mud covered one lane with only one lane passable.
An amateur radio operator reported that nickel sized hail fell near Hog Mountain.
An amateur radio operator reported that a tree fell on a house near Hog Mountain, causing damage to the back of the house.
The Gwinnett Times reported that a tree was down on Interstate 85 near Buford Drive.
Local newspaper reported that several trees and power lines were blown down in the Lawrenceville area.
The USGS stream gage on Dick Creek at Old Atlanta Road near Johns Creek and Suwanee reached flood stage of 10 feet. The creek crest at 12.8 feet. Minor flooding occurred with a few road closures nearby.
The USGS stream gage on the Big Creek at Atlanta Highway near Cumming reached flood stage of 6 feet. The creek crest at 8.2 feet. Minor flooding occurred along the Big Creek Greenway.
The USGS stream gage on Level Creek at Suwanee Dam Road near Sugar Hill and Suwanee reached flood stage of 9 feet. The creek crest at 13 feet. Moderate flooding occurred with the water level hitting the bridge and reaching the bottom of the USGS gage house. Also the USGS stream gage on Richland Creek at Suwanee Dam Road near Sugar Hill and Buford reached flood stage of 10 feet. The creek crest at 10.5 feet. Minor flooding occurred in the woodlands and residential yards along the creeks.
Local newspaper reported that several trees and power lines were reported down in the Loganville area.
Trudy Drive was completely washed out by a drainage branch flowing into Lake Lanier. There was a 50 to 75 foot large gap in the road with at least a 10 foot drop off. Several other roads were closed and damaged by flood waters as drainage branches become rapidly flowing creeks and overwhelmed culverts. These roads included portions of Atlanta Highway, McEver Road, Stephens Road, Flowery Way, Spring Street and Cove Creek Road in the Flowery Branch area.
The USGS stream gage on Pew Creek at Patterson Road near Lawrenceville reached flood stage of 11 feet. The creek crest at 14.3 feet. Moderate flooding occurred and the water level hit the bridge for around one hour. The USGS stream gage on Suwanee Creek at Buford Highway near Suwanee reached flood stage of 8 feet. The creek crest at 11.8 feet. Moderate flooding occurred with several road closures nearby. The USGS stream gage on Sweetwater Creek at Club Drive near Liburn reached flood stage of 11 feet. The creek crest at 13.1 feet. Minor flooding occurred. Long lake overflowed and flooded parts of the Riverbrooke neighborhood near Duluth. Backyards were flooded and the water came close to the houses.
The USGS stream gage on the Big Creek at Kimball Bridge Road near Alpharetta reached flood stage of 7 feet. The creek crest at 10.3 feet. Minor flooding occurred. The USGS stream gage on the Chattahoochee River near Berkeley Lake and Norcross reached flood stage of 12 feet. The river crest at 12.4 feet. Minor flooding occurred. The Chattahoochee River rose out of its banks and flooded the paddocks and access road to the stables at the Huntcliff River Club near Sandy Springs. Emergency officials evacuated 20 horses from the stables.
The Polk County 911 Center reported that several trees were down on power lines in the Rockmart and Aragon areas.
The public reported several drainage branches and small creeks from Rockmart to near Taylorsville overflowed their banks. This affected low lying portions of a few roads which caused temporary road closures.
The public reported that at least 15 large trees were uprooted or snapped along Quail Ridge Road.
Significant flooding occurred northwest through northeast of Trion on Chattooga Creek, Cane Creek, Chappel Creek and Spring Branch which caused minor flooding downstream on the Chattooga River in Summerville. The emergency manager reported up to 20 roads were closed in this area due to overflowing creeks. Six mobile homes were flooded and abandoned. First responders had difficulty in reaching 15 people in the mobile homes for evacuation near U.S. Highway 27 at the intersection of West and East Halls Valley Roads. Some major erosion occurred on portions of the roads.
The Carroll County Emergency Manager reported a couple of trees down. Pea sized hail was also reported.
A trained spotter reported that a power line was blown down on MacLand Road near Hiram.
The public reported several small creeks came out of their banks and briefly flooded portions of nearby roads in the Cooper Heights area.
The Douglas County Emergency Manager and 911 Center reported numerous trees down across the county. Several fell on power lines and homes, including on Pilgrims Drive, Windmark Place, David Drive, Greenbrook Drive, McKown Road, Hidden Branch Road, Bomar Road, and South Burnt Hickory Road.
The Coweta County 911 Center relayed a report of quarter size hail along North Highway 29 near Greentop Road.
The Carroll County Emergency Manager reported that a couple of trees were blown down in Whitesburg.
The Pickens County Emergency Manager reported that a house was partially burned down due to lightning.
The emergency manager reported numerous drainage branches and small creeks in the Rome area overflowed their banks. This affected low lying portions of 15 roads which caused temporary road closures.
The Coweta County 911 Center reported that several trees and power lines were blown down in the Senoia area.
Local newspaper reported that several trees were blown down between Highways 138 and 92 east of Fairburn toward Jonesboro Road.
The public reported several roads in the Adairsville area with high water overflowing them from nearby drainage branches. This included Clear Deck Road, Mathews Road and East Pleasant Valley Road around 5 to 6 miles east to southeast of Adairsville.
The Fayette County Emergency Manager reported several trees down, some on power lines, lying across the road at Ellison and Tyrone.
The Meriwether County 911 Center reported that several trees were blown down in eastern Meriwether County, specifically along Gay Road near Murray Road and along Highway 100 near mile marker 10.
The emergency manager reported a small creek overflowed a portion of McKown Road around 4 miles east to northeast of Douglasville. The culvert pipe was washed out with significant erosion damage to the road.
The Meriwether County 911 Center reported that several trees were blown down in the Greenville area.
The Upson County 911 Center reported several trees and power lines down across roads on the north side of Thomaston. A few other trees were reported down in the eastern part of the county.
The Upson County 911 Center reported that lightning struck a house on the north side of Thomaston. The house caught fire but the fire was quickly extinguished.
The emergency manager reported Mill Creek had overflowed low lying portions of Willowdale Road near Chattanooga Road. The road was temporarily closed.
The Upson County 911 Center reported that several trees were blown down in the Yatesville area of eastern Upson County.
Broadcast media reported that several trees were blown down in Butler.
Amateur radio operators reported that a few trees were blown down in Montezuma. One fell on power lines along north Dooly Street, another was on Old Perry Road, and another on Highway 127 on Marvis Chapman Road.
The public reported several roads in the Adairsville area with high water overflowing them from nearby drainage branches. This included Clear Deck Road, Mathews Road and East Pleasant Valley Road around 5 to 6 miles east to southeast of Adairsville.
The Crisp County Emergency Manager reported around 10 trees down across the east and southeast portions of the county, mainly east of Interstate 75.
The emergency manager reported several drainage branches and small creeks overflowed their banks and flooded low lying portions of several roads from Cole City to Wildwood and Morganville. A family was stranded in their home near Cole City by surrounding flood waters. First responders had a difficult time reaching them to evacuate to higher ground.
The USGS stream gage on Lookout Creek at Creek Road near New England and Trenton reached flood stage of 12 feet. The creek crest at 16.7 feet. Significant flooding occurred near the moderate flood stage of 17 feet with several road closures.
