Tornadoes and Hail in Tennessee, April 4, 2011

Several one to two foot diameter trees were snapped in half at Clover Bottom Mansion near the intersection of Lebanon Road and Disspayne Drive.

Initial damage was noted just west of Waverly near the intersection of Bowen Hills Drive and U.S. Highway 70. The damage continued directly through downtown Waverly for approximately 2.9 miles. The last evidence of damage was near the intersection of Fairfield Drive and U.S. Highway 70. The damage path was very narrow, with a maximum width of only 75 yards.

In addition to dozens of snapped and uprooted trees, several businesses in Waverly suffered significant roof damage. Signs and overhangs were also torn off by the winds, and there were several homes and vehicles crushed by falling trees.

Trees were downed near the intersection of U.S. Highway 412 and State Highway 13.

Winds were estimated at between 80 to 85 mph. Trees and power lines were downed across Waverly.

Several trees were blown down to the south of Camden in Benton County.

A carport was destroyed, several homes suffered minor roof damage, and dozens of trees were snapped and uprooted. Maximum wind speeds were estimated to be between 80 to 90 mph.

Initial damage was noted along U.S. Highway 70 approximately 1 mile west of |Tennessee City in western Dickson County. Damage was nearly continuous along a 7.3 mile track into the west side of the city of Dickson. The last evidence of damage was just west of Dickson Lake. The maximum path width of the tornado was nearly 150 yards.

Hundreds of hardwood trees were snapped and uprooted along the damage path. Several structures experienced significant roof damage including a fire hall in Tennessee City. Several outbuildings and barns were also heavily damaged.

Several trees were blown down along Highway 48 between Centerville and Interstate 40.

Several large trees were downed near Interstate 40 and State Highway 48.

A park ranger at Montgomery Bell State Park reported that 20 plus trees were downed.

Part of the roof was removed from Woodard Elementary School near Columbia.

Funnel cloud was observed passing over the Mapco Gas Station just north of the intersection of U.S. Highway 31/Hillsboro Road and State Route 397/Mack C Hatcher Memorial Parkway just north of the city of Franklin.

A 30 inch diameter tree was snapped in half by the wind.

Numerous snapped and uprooted trees, including some roof damage to several homes, occurred in the Moreland Farms Community off of Old Lebanon Dirt Road. Specific details concerning amount of roof damage and associated cost were unknown.

The damage path extended east across Battle Road, Waldron Road, along Blair Road, and ending near Interstate 24 and Sam Ridley Parkway. The damage path ranged from 50 to 100 yards wide. Damage was very consistent along the path, which was just over 4 miles long.

The debris pattern showed clear convergent patterns, and eyewitness accounts support the determination that a tornado caused the damage. Numerous power poles were snapped. Hundreds of trees were snapped or uprooted. Some of these had large root systems. Some small storage buildings were destroyed. Numerous homes had roof|and siding damage. Several fences were blown down. Debris was scattered hundreds of yards. A tractor trailer was blown over on Interstate 24. Several cargo trailers were overturned on Interstate 24 also.

Line of tree damage and tree debris occurred from Moreland Farms headed southeast crossing North Mount Juliet Road about 100 yards north of the Old Lebanon Dirt Road intersection. Gutters and parts of roofing missing from several businesses also occurred just north of the Old Lebanon Dirt Road intersection.

Trees were downed across much of northern Rutherford County.

Several trees were downed in Hartsville.

A cedar tree of about 1 foot in diameter was downed near Unionville.

Spotters reported large trees were downed and two power poles were snapped.

Several trees were blown down in Carthage on Jefferson Avenue East.

Numerous trees and power lines were downed across the county. One report was received of a church sustaining damage. Specific details concerning the exact location|of the church, the amount and type of damage that occurred along with the associated cost, were unknown.

Several large trees were downed near and around the city of Tullahoma and in the downtown area. The arms on a railroad crossing sign were also broken.

A 12 inch diameter limb was downed and laid on a house at 132 County House Circle. Specific details on if any damage was caused to the home by this 12 inch diameter tree limb was unknown.

Trees were downed between Crossville and Crab Orchard on Interstate 40 both east and west bound lanes. One east bound lane was blocked as the result of trees being downed.

A large 18 inch diameter tree was downed on Interstate 24 near mile marker 115.
