Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.
An early season cold front moved unusally far south for mid September, and interacted with abundant tropical moisture, leading to torrential rain producing thunderstorms ahead of the front on September 14th, and another band of showers and a few thunderstorms behind the front on the 15th, aided by interaction with a moderately strong mid level jet streak.
