An intense Bering Sea storm with its associated front into the north Pacific produced heavy rain along the Alaska Peninsula. The combination of the heavy rain and a high tide resulted in excess water flow from Chignik Lake becoming dammed in the mouth of the river and flooding along the road into town.

.ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS...

UPPER LEVEL RIDGE THIS MORNING CENTERED OVER MAINLAND AK AND
EXTENDING NORTH TO THE POLE AND SOUTH BEYOND THE GULF OF AK. TROUGHS
EXTEND FROM A HUDSON BAY LOW TO THE PAC NW...AND FROM SIBERIA ACROSS
KAMCHATKA AND THE EXTREME WESTERN ALEUTIANS. AT THE SURFACE...A LOW
IS MOVING INTO EASTERN RUSSIA FROM THE BERING AND A MASSIVE RIDGE
CENTERED OVER THE ALCAN COVERS ALL OF MAINLAND AK AND THE YUKON. A
DISSIPATING WEATHER FRONT EXTENDS FROM THE BERING STRAIT TO THE AKPEN
AND BEYOND.

.MODEL DISCUSSION...

MODELS REMAIN IN EXCELLENT AGREEMENT WITH A TREND TOWARD THE GFS FOR
THE NEXT THREE DAYS AS ALL SURFACE FEATURES RETROGRADE TO THE WEST.
AFTER THAT POINT UNCERTAINTY INCREASES AS THE MODELS STRUGGLE TO
RESOLVE A PATTERN CHANGE. NEW FORECAST MAKES LITTLE CHANGE AFTER 3
DAYS FROM THE PREVIOUS SOLUTION.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST...

SOUTH AND EAST OF THE AK RANGE...HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS OVER THE AREA.
AS A LOW DEVELOPS OVER THE NORTHERN GULF TODAY...A SIGNIFICANT
PRESSURE GRADIENT DEVELOPS BETWEEN COLD HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE ALCAN
AND COPPER RIVER BASIN AND WARMER LOW PRESSURE OVER THE GULF. THIS
WILL CAUSE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WINDS TO DEVELOP LATER TODAY OUT OF
THE MATANUSKA VALLEY AND COPPER RIVER DELTA...AS WELL AS THOMPSON
PASS AND THE VALDEZ AREA...WHICH WILL PERSIST INTO THE EARLY PART OF
NEXT WEEK. AS THE GULF LOW MOVES TOWARD THE AKPEN...IT WILL BRING
SNOW TO GULF COASTAL SECTIONS THROUGH MON...WITH HEAVIER AMOUNTS TUE.

FOR SW AK...LINGERING WINDS DIMINISH TODAY AND SIGNIFICANT CLEARING
BEGINS TO AFFECT THE ENTIRE AREA. AS THE GULF LOW MOVES TO THE
AKPEN...SNOW SHOWERS WILL AFFECT AREAS NEAR THE AK RANGE MON...
SPREADING NORTH AND WEST THROUGH TUE.

IN THE WEST...THE EASTERN BERING WILL HAVE RAIN ASSOCIATED WITH THE
WESTWARD DRIFTING FRONT FROM WESTERN AK. THIS WASHES OUT SUN MORNING
AGAINST A RIDGE OVER THE CENTRAL BERING. LIGHT SNOW IN THE EXTREME
WEST WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH A FRONT UNABLE TO MOVE EAST BECAUSE OF
THE CENTRAL BERING RIDGE. THIS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MONDAY.  NORTH
FLOW ACROSS MUCH OF THE BERING SETS UP IN RESPONSE TO THE GULF LOW
MOVING TO THE EASTERN ALEUTIANS MON NIGHT.

.LONG TERM FORECAST...

IN THE EAST A SERIES OF WEAK WEATHER FRONTS WILL CROSS THE GULF.
PRECIPITATION WILL BE LIMITED TO COASTAL SECTIONS. IN THE
SOUTHWEST...WEAK SOUTHWEST FLOW SETS UP WITH SOME SNOW MOVING INTO
THE AREA. IN THE WEST...BENIGN CONDITION PERSIST UNTIL A LOW MOVES
ACROSS THE BERING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK WITH SIGNIFICANT WIND AND
SNOW FOR THE ALEUTIANS.
