The month of December was a continuation of an abnormally dry period across McCurtain County. For the year, the county was some 20 inches below normal on rainfall, which resulted in a continued high fire threat through the month of December. Several small fires broke out during the month but the damage that resulted was minimal. Burn bans which were in effect since the summer and fall periods continued into the month of December.
