NORTHEAST OREGON/SOUTHEAST WASHINGTON FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PENDLETON OR
225 AM PDT SAT MAY 17 2003

ANOTHER WAVE IN A PERSISTENT BROAD UPPER TROUGH OVER THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST WILL MOVE THROUGH THE FORECAST AREA TODAY. HOWEVER MOST OF
THE ENERGY...INSTABILITY AND MOISTURE WILL REMAIN IN THE NORTHERN
PARTS OF THE CWA. IT APPEARS THAT IT WILL BE UNSTABLE ENOUGH FOR
SOME ISOLATED AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS...SO HAVE INCLUDED THOSE IN
THE FORECAST FOR THIS AFTERNOON AS WELL. THE WAVE WILL CONTINUE TO
MOVE THROUGH THE FORECAST AREA TONIGHT AND EXIT ON SUNDAY. HOWEVER
AS IT CONTINUES TO MOVE EAST IT IS FORECAST TO INTENSIFY AND
AMPLIFY. AS A RESULT HAVE LEFT SOME ISOLATED TO SCATTERED RAIN AND
MOUNTAIN SNOW SHOWERS TONIGHT. THEN ON SUNDAY THE ONLY AREA LEFT TO
BE AFFECTED BY THIS SYSTEM WILL BE THE EXTREME NORTHEAST PART OF THE
FORECAST AREA. THERE WILL STILL BE SOME RESIDUAL INSTABILITY AND
MOISTURE TO WARRANT THE MENTION OF SHOWERS AND ISOLATED AFTERNOON
THUNDERSTORMS THERE FOR SUNDAY. THEN AN UPPER RIDGE WILL FINALLY
BUILD INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST BEGINNING ON MONDAY WITH A WARMING
AND DRYING TREND. RSC.

EXTENDED...
HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WILL LINGER THROUGH THE
FIRST PART OF THE WEEK. THERE ARE FEW WEAK DISTURBANCES THAT WILL
TRY TO MOVE THROUGH THE RIDGE...BUT THESE SHOULD HAVE LITTLE EFFECT
ON THE AREA WEATHER. AS SUCH EXPECT WARM AND SUNNY CONDITIONS.
EXTENDED MODELS ARE HINTING AT ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE TO END THE
PERIOD. WILL WAIT FOR ANOTHER MODEL RUN BEFORE GETTING TO EXCITED
ABOUT IT. TOBIN
