AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AMARILLO TX
600 PM CDT WED 09 JUL 2003

SFC TROUGH IS SLOWLY MOVING SOUTHEASTWARD BISECTING THE CWA FROM NE
TO SW. GIVEN THE STOUT CAP...SHALLOW DEPTH OF THE TROUGH AND A LACK
OF LIFT...HAVE REMOVED POPS FOR TONIGHT AND ADDED CLEAR SKY WORDING.
OTHERWISE THE FCST APPEARS WELL IN HAND.

...PREVIOUS DISCUSSION BELOW...

240 PM CDT WED 09 JUL 2003

MAIN FORECAST CHALLENGE WILL BE LOWS TONIGHT AND TOMORROW AS WELL AS
PRECIP CHANCES ON FRI. THE COLD FRONT HAS MOVED THROUGH THE WESTERN
COUNTIES AND SHOULD BEGIN TO MOVE THROUGH THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN
PANHANDLES AROUND SUNSET. LOWER DEWPOINTS BEHIND THE FRONT SHOULD
ALLOW FOR SLIGHTLY LOWER MIN TEMPS TONIGHT WITH THE COLDEST MORNING
BEING FRI WHEN WINDS ARE LIGHTEST. GOOD INSOLATION SHOULD KEEP
HIGHS IN THE 90S.

THE BEST CHANCE FOR POPS SHOULD BE LATE FRI AS A WEAK UPPER LEVEL
DISTURBANCE MOVES ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS IN THE NORTHWEST FLOW.
MODELS TRY TO BREAK OUT SOME QPF ACROSS MAINLY THE NORTHERN
PANHANDLES HOWEVER LAPSE RATES ARE NOT IMPRESSIVE SO WILL STICK
WITH SLT CHANCE POPS FOR NOW.

THE FOUR CORNERS HIGH BUILDS EAST NEXT WEEK ENSURING WARM TEMPS AND
NO POPS THROUGH THE END OF THE PERIOD. KEPT HIGHS SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE
MRF MOS IN THE DAYS 5-7 PERIODS AS IT SEEMED TO SHOW A CLIMO BIAS.
