NORTHERN GREAT BASIN FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ELKO NV
200 PM PDT THU JUN 12 2003

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS FIRING ALONG AND EAST OF A LINE FROM AUSTIN
TO ELKO TO WENDOVER. THIS IS A LITTLE FURTHER WEST THAN YESTERDAY AS
FLOW ALOFT HAS BACKED SLIGHTLY DUE TO SHORT WAVE MOVING ACROSS
CENTRAL CA. CUMULUS DEVELOPING TO A WEST OF THIS LINE WITH MODELS
SHOWING THIS AREA BECOMING UNSTABLE THIS AFTERNOON SO AM EXPECTING
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP LATER THIS AFTERNOON. WILL LET
ISOLATED STORMS GO ALL NIGHT ACROSS HUMBOLDT COUNTY AS SHORT WAVE
OFF NORTHERN CA WILL BRUSH THAT AREA TONIGHT. DRIER AIR BEHIND
SHORT WAVE WILL PUSH MOISTURE BACK TO THE EAST ON FRIDAY BUT SHOULD
STILL BE ENOUGH MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY ACROSS WHITE PINE AND
SOUTHEAST ELKO COUNTY FOR A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. FLOW
ACTUALLY BACKS A LITTLE ON SATURDAY AS UPPER RIDGE BUILDS. THIS
PULLS MOISTURE BACK A LITTLE WEST AND NORTH SO WILL PUT SLIGHT
CHANCE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS EAST CENTRAL AND IN ELKO COUNTY EAST OF
THE RUBY MOUNTAINS. JUST ABOUT THE SAME SCENARIO ON SUNDAY.

EXTENDED...WEAK UPPER TROUGH APPROACHING CA COAST MONDAY IN
COMBINATION WITH UPPER HIGH NEAR THE FOUR CORNERS WILL PUT THE REGION
UNDER SOUTHERLY FLOW WITH MOISTURE SPREADING ACROSS ALL OF NORTHERN
AND EAST CENTRAL NV. MOISTURE NOT THAT GREAT BUT WONT TAKE MUCH WITH
WARM DAYTIME TEMPERATURES TO KICK OFF A FEW THUNDERSTORMS. THIS
SCENARIO CONTINUES INTO THURSDAY.

.EKO...NONE.
