EASTERN OKLAHOMA/NORTHWEST ARKANSAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK
310 AM CDT SAT APR 27 2002

MID LEVEL SHORTWAVE CURRENTLY OVER NERN NM WILL CONTINUE ITS
TREK TO THE NORTHEAST TODAY AND WILL MOVE ACROSS THE CENTRAL
PLAINS AND THE UPPER MS VALLEY. THIS SHORTWAVE IS CURRENTLY
AIDING SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPMENT ACROSS WESTERN
OKLAHOMA. SOME OF THIS THUNDERSTORMS ACTIVITY WILL MOVE
ACROSS OUR FA THIS MORNING. MAY ALSO SEE SOME ELEVATED SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA THIS MORNING WITH A
50 TO 60 KT LOW LEVEL JET OVERHEAD. AS THE MID LEVEL SHORTWAVE
AND ASSOCIATED SFC LOW PUSH OFF TO THE NORTHEAST...DRY AIR WILL
RUSH INTO THE AREA WITH SFC DEWPOINT DISCONTINUITY MOVING INTO
EASTERN OKLAHOMA THIS AFTERNOON. SOME SFC BASED CONVECTION MAY
DEVELOP ALONG THIS BOUNDARY THIS AFTERNOON BUT IT WILL BE A
STRUGGLE. IF THUNDERSTORMS DO DEVELOP ALONG THIS BOUNDARY THIS
AFTERNOON THEY WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE WITH CAPE VALUES OF 1500 TO
2000 J/KG AND LI VALUES OF -1 TO -5. ANOTHER CONCERN FOR TODAY
WILL BE THE WINDS WITH THE PRESSURE GRADIENT TIGHTENING AS THE
THE SFC LOW DEVELOPS ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS AND AS THE DRY AIR
MOVES INTO THE AREA ALLOWING FOR ADDITIONAL MIXING. WILL GO WITH
CAUTION IS ADVISED WORDING FOR TODAY BUT THIS WILL NEED TO
MONITORED FOR A POSSIBLE UPGRADE TO A WIND ADVISORY.

A WEAK COLD FRONT ASSOCIATED WITH THE LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPING
OVER THE CENTRAL PLAINS AND MOVING OFF TO THE NORTHEAST WILL
MOVE THROUGH THE FORECAST AREA LATE TONIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY
MORNING. IT WILL COME THROUGH DRY DUE TO THE TOTAL LACK OF MOISTURE.

DID NOT MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS TO THE EXTENDED PORTION OF THE
FORECAST.
