AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PADUCAH KY 100 AM CDT THU MAY 9 2002 AMENDED TO MAINTAIN KENTUCKY COUNTIES IN FFA. LATEST SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWS A LOW OVER SW WISCONSIN WITH AN ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT EXTENDING SOUTHWEST INTO OKLAHOMA WHERE THE BOUNDARY INTERSECTS ANOTHER LOW CENTER. REGIONAL RADAR LOOP SHOWS A LINE OF STORMS ALONG AND JUST AHEAD OF THE FRONT WITH EXTENSIVE POST FRONTAL PRECIPITATION. 00Z MODEL RUNS IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH BRINGING PRECIP INTO THE FA BEFORE 06Z. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY NOT ACCURATE. HOWEVER...CURRENTLY LINE IS MOVING TO THE EAST AROUND 40 MPH AND SHOULD REACH THE NORTHWEST BORDER OF THE PAH FA AROUND 7Z. THE MODELS ARE IN GENERAL AGREEMENT ON TAKING THE FRONT SOUTH OF THE OHIO RIVER BY 18Z TODAY. THE MAIN DISCREPANCY IS WITH THE POST FRONTAL PRECIP. AS FOR QPF THE ETA MODEL LOOKS MUCH MORE REASONABLE AND WILL FAVOR ITS SOLUTION AS THE AVN SHOWS SIGNS OF CONVECTIVE FEEDBACK. LATEST LAPS SHOWS STORMS MOVING INTO LESS FAVORABLE ATMOSPHERE FOR SEVERE AND CURRENT REGIONAL 88D LOOP SUPPORTS STORMS WEAKENING. WITH CAPES...LIS...AND DEW POINTS DECREASING AHEAD OF PRECIP...WOULD EXPECT THIS TREND TO CONTINUE. ALTHOUGH THE INTENSITY IS DECREASING...FFG WOULD INDICATE VERY LITTLE PRECIP NEEDED OVER WATCH AREA TO EXCEED FFG. WITH THIS IN MIND WILL MAINTAIN FFA THIS MORNING. FOLLOWING THE ETA RUN WILL START DIMINISHING TSRA CHANCES THIS AFTERNOON...ESPECIALLY NORTHWEST OF THE OHIO RIVER. AFTER THIS SYSTEM DEPARTS THE AREA HIGH PRESSURE TAKES OVER THROUGH FRIDAY. AFTER THAT THE SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT SETS UP AND ANOTHER SURFACE LOW DEVELOPS OVER THE SOUTHWEST AND EJECTS NORTHEAST...JUST NORTHWEST OF THE REGION SATURDAY. AN ASSOCIATED WARM FRONT SHOULD OVERTAKE THE REGION SATURDAY. BELIEVE SOME PRECIP WILL BE POSSIBLE BUT WILL NOT BUY INTO IT WHOLE HEARTEDLY. SUNDAY NIGHT LOOKS TO BE THE BEST CHANCE OF TSRAS FOR THE AREA AS THE UPPER LEVEL SHORT WAVE ROTATES THROUGH BRINGING ANOTHER COLD FRONT THROUGH. OTHER THAN THE FIRST PERIOD NUMERICAL GUIDANCE IN GOOD AGREEMENT AND WILL FOLLOW TREND. A thunderstorm downburst struck a small area on the east side of Metropolis. About 10 trees were blown down, including one that fell on a house and another on power lines. A carport was blown about 100 feet into some woods. A sign was damaged at a car dealership.
