Blizzard in Alaska, February 21 to 22, 2002
A strong, slow moving low pressure system over the southern Bering Sea helped to create blizzard conditions across portions of western Alaska. An occluded front associated with the strong low moved across this region bringing with it areas of snow.

A strong, slow moving low pressure system over the southern Bering Sea helped to create blizzard conditions across portions of western Alaska. An occluded front associated with the strong low moved across this region bringing with it areas of snow. Strong winds also developed as the pressure gradient strenthened near the frontal boundary. This combination of snow and strong winds resulted in blizzard conditions being reported at Cape Romanzof, Unalakleet, Nome, and Kotzebue.
