WESTERN COLORADO & EASTERN UTAH AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAND JUNCTION CO 250 AM MDT MON JUN 18 2001 SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVING EAST THROUGH THE NORTHERN ROCKIES ON TIME WITH EARLIER MODEL RUNS. THIS WAVE PROVIDING LITTLE IMPACT ON EASTERN UTAH AND WESTERN COLORADO OUTSIDE OF A FEW MID/HIGH LEVEL CLOUDS MOVING THROUGH THIS MORNING AND SLIGHT COOLING OF H7 TEMPS. THIS COOLING WILL BE REFLECTIVE IN MAX TEMPS TODAY WITH READINGS EXPECTED TO BE A FEW DEGREES COOLER IN MOST AREAS. MODEL GUIDANCE HAS TRENDED THIS DIRECTION...BUT LIKELY HAS COOLED THINGS OFF TO MUCH WITH PLENTY OF SUN AGAIN EXPECTED AND FAIRLY WARM MINS THIS MORNING. SO PLAN ON GOING SLIGHTLY ABOVE GUIDANCE NUMBERS TODAY. MID LEVEL FLOW STILL STRONG ENOUGH TO PRODUCE BREEZY AFTERNOON WINDS...WHICH IS HANDLED WELL IN CURRENT FCST. MORE OF THE SAME IN STORE TUESDAY AS DRY FLOW ALOFT CONTS. A LITTLE STRONGER WAVE NOW SHOWING UP IN MODELS FOR WEDNESDAY. THIS WAVE FCST TO MOVE ACROSS WYOMING...WITH JUST ENOUGH ENERGY AND MOISTURE TO POSSIBLY SPARK A FEW STORMS OVER THE NRN AND CENTRAL MTNS. CURRENT MENTION OF SLIGHT CHC POPS ON WEDNESDAY STILL LOOKS GOOD AND WILL LEAVE AS IS. REMAINDER OF THE WEEK RETURNS TO DRY AND HOT AS WESTERN RIDGE SHIFTS EAST OVER THE ROCKIES...WITH RDG AXIS FINALLY MOVING TO OUR EAST BY LATE IN THE WEEK. THIS WILL ALLOW SOME MOISTURE TO MOVE NORTH BY EARLY NEXT WEEK. STILL A LONG WAY TOw GO... BUT IT IS A GLIMMER OF HOPE FOR SOME MEANINGFUL RAINFALL.
