SYNOPSIS...A MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS WILL BE OVER UTAH TONIGHT
INTO FRIDAY...AS A LOW TRACKS FROM OFF THE CALIFORNIA COAST INTO
SOUTHEASTERN UTAH. A COLDER STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE STATE
ON SATURDAY.
DISCUSSION...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING OVER UTAH THIS
AFTERNOON IN ADVANCE OF AN UPPER LOW ALONG THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
COAST. THIS LOW WILL TRACK EASTWARD INTO ARIZONA TONIGHT THEN
ACROSS EASTERN UTAH EARLY FRIDAY. A SURFACE LOW IS FORECAST TO
DEVELOP OVER EAST CENTRAL UTAH THIS EVENING AND INTENSIFY AS IT
MOVES INTO NORTHEAST COLORADO BY 18Z FRIDAY. UPPER LEVEL DYNAMICS
LOOK IMPRESSIVE WITH THIS SYSTEM AS THE TROUGH AXIS SWINGS THROUGH.
THUS...WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION LOOKS LIKE A GOOD BET OVER MOST OF
THE AREA TONIGHT INTO EARLY FRIDAY. LESS ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED OVER
THE EXTREME NORTHWEST PORTIONS OF OUR COUNTY WARNING FORECAST AREA.
THE SNOW ADVISORY WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE MOUNTAINS SOUTH OF
I-80. DESPITE SOME RIDGING ALOFT...THE AIRMASS REMAINS MOIST ON
FRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR A CONTINUATION OF SHOWER ACTIVITY.
A COLDER SYSTEM IS THEN EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO UTAH ON SATURDAY. THE
ETA IS A BIT SLOWER THAN THE AVN...AND CONTINUES TO KEEP THE COLDEST
AIR TO OUR WEST. THE AVN, HOWEVER, STILL BRINGS THE COLD UPPER
TROUGH OVER UTAH LATE SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY. DESPITE THIS
DIFFERENCE...A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE INTO THE STATE ON SATURDAY AND
BOTH MODELS SUGGEST THAT PRECIPITATION SHOULD BE WIDESPREAD OVER THE
MOUNTAINS AND WEST. RAIN COULD THEN CHANGE TO SNOW SATURDAY IN MANY
WESTERN VALLEYS. THIS MAY BE A SIGNIFICANT STORM...ESPECIALLY FOR
THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS.
THE EXTENDED PERIOD WILL REMAIN COOL AND UNSETTLED AS YET ANOTHER
UPPER LOW IS EXPECTED TO TRACK ACROSS THE AREA.
