TEXAS/OKLAHOMA PANHANDLES FORECAST DISCUSSION...CORRECTED NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AMARILLO TX 320 PM CDT WED MAY 30 2001 CONVECTION DEVELOPING OVER NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO THIS AFTERNOON WITH NORTHWEST FLOW SHORTWAVE BACK OVER COLORADO. HIGH PLAINS PROFILERS SHOWS GOOD WESTERLY COMPONENT TO STEERING LEVEL WINDS SUGGEST A DECENT PROBABILITY THESE STORMS WILL AT LEAST MOVE OVER WESTERN ZONES AND PERHAPS CENTRAL ZONES AS WELL. SURFACE WINDS HAVE BACKED AT KTCC AND KCVN AND ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BACKING AT KDHT SUGGESTING SOME FAVORABLE VERTICAL PROFILES AS 55 KT MID LEVEL SPEED MAX OVER THE CENTRAL ROCKIES APPROACHES THE PANHANDLES. LOWER TO MID 50S DEW POINTS IN PLACE SO SUFFICIENT MSTR/INSTABILITY FOR SOME SEVERE STORMS. THIS AREA INCLUDES THOSE SOUTH OF A VEGA TO WELLINGTON LINE. A STRONG UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE OVER WEST-CENTRAL COLORADO WILL MOVE SOUTHEAST INTO THE TEXAS PANHANDLE TONIGHT. AT THE SURFACE... A WEAK COLD FRONT WILL REMAIN OVER THE SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE. THE ATMOSPHERE WILL REMAIN MOIST AND UNSTABLE OVER THE AREA THROUGH THIS EVENING.
