STATES APPEARS TO BE KEEPING A LID ON CONVECTION OVER CENTRAL TEXAS
INTO THE RIO GRANDE PLAINS THIS EVENING. LATEST BRO SOUNDING
INDICATING MORE OF A NORTH WIND AT 500 MB INDICATIVE OF SUBSIDENCE
FROM THE NORTH. HOWEVER...MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR CONTINUES OVER THE
VALLEY WITH PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES UNCHANGED FROM 12Z SOUNDING.
LITTLE OR NO CAP ALSO A CONCERN...BUT SUBSIDENCE AND LACK OF HEATING
WARRANTS NO POPS UNTIL TOMORROW WITH THE SEABREEZE BEING A FOCUS FOR
CONVERGENCE. EVEN CONVECTION IN NORTHEAST MEXICO HAS DISSIPATED THIS

July 2001 was a very dry month across most of Deep South Texas, with sparse rainfall occurring in only a few select locations. As a result, a severe drought continues as surface and subsoil moistures remain very low. Most areas in Deep South Texas were running between 4 and 6 inches below normal for yearly rainfall through the end of July. The lack of rainfall has had an effect on the reservoirs that supply water to Deep South Texas. The average reservoir storage for the period from 1996-Present is the lowest on record for both Amistad and Falcon reservoirs. Following are some rainfall departures through the end of July: Brownsville reported 4.40 inches below normal; Harlingen reported 4.81 inches below normal; McAllen reported 2.15 inches below normal; Zapata reported 6.66 inches below normal; and Hebbronville reported 7.08 inches below normal.
