AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORMAN OK 751 PM CDT WED MAY 9 2001 HAVE BEEN WATCHING CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY IN THE OK/TX PANHANDLE AND WRN KANSAS WITH INCREASING INTEREST THIS EVENING. PER THE LATEST MESONET OBS..THIS ACTIVITY HAS PUT DOWN A RATHER SHARP COLD POOL THAT CONTINUES TO ADVANCE EWD ATTM. OTHER STORMS IN SW KS APPARENTLY HAVE PRODUCED SIMILAR OUTFLOW PER KDDC RADAR AND SFC OBS. STRONG INSOLATION TODAY ALLOWED SFC TEMPS TO WARM SIGNIFICANTLY IN NW OK LEADING TO A WELL MIXED AND DEEP BOUNDARY LAYER WITH TEMP/DEWPOINT DEPRESSIONS ON THE ORDER OF 25 TO 30 DEGREES..WHICH IS LIKELY SUPPORTING COLD POOL DEVELOPMENT. DEEP LAYER WIND SHEAR IS WEAK..AND DOUBT IF ANY OF THESE STORMS WILL REACH SVR LEVELS IN OUR AREA AS WE LOSE HEATING. HOWEVER..00Z OUN SOUNDING IS WEAKLY CAPPED..AND INSTABILITY IS STILL FAIRLY DECENT TO THE EAST OF THE STORMS ATTM. THUS..THERE IS SOME CONCERN THAT THESE STORMS WILL LAST FOR SEVERAL MORE HOURS..AND MAKE THEIR WAY INTO NW OK WITH FAIRLY DECENT AREAL COVERAGE AROUND/AFTER 9 PM. THE 18Z MESOETA ALSO SEEMS TO SUPPORT THIS SOLN. NEED TO MAKE A FEW MINOR ADJUSTMENTS TO WINDS AND CLOUDS ANYWAY..SO MAY GO AHEAAD AND REALIGN A FEW ZONES OUT WEST TO ACCOUNT FOR RAIN CHANCES. OVERNITE CREW WILL ALSO NEED TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE DEVELOPING MCS OVER NEBRASKA. IT IS NOT INCONCEIVABLE THAT A FEW ROGUE PRECIP ECHOES CUD DEVELOP SWD INTO THE LLJ AXIS AND APPROACH NRN OK BY DAY BREAK. MILLER .OUN... OK...NONE. TX...NONE.
