AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ST LOUIS MO
350 AM CDT THU APR 26 2001
MAIN FCST QUESTION THIS MORNING DEALS WITH PRECIP CHANCES FRI INTO
SATURDAY. SYNOPTIC SITUATION DOES NOT LOOK TOO FAVORABLE FOR
ANYTHING SIGNIFICANT...BUT MODEL QPFS HAVE BEEN AND CONTINUE SHOWING
SOME ACCUMULATION AROUND OUR CWFA. AT THE SURFACE...MODELS HAVE A
COLD FRONT SLIDING SOUTH THROUGH THE AREA FRIDAY AND REALIGNING AS A
NW-SE ORIENTED WARM FRONT FRIDAY NIGHT. ACCORDING TO THE NGM...SOME
PORTION OF OUR AREA WILL SEE RAIN ALL DAY FRIDAY. IN CONTRAST...THE
AVN AND ETA STAY DRY UNTIL FRIDAY NIGHT (BEYOND THE 48H RANGE OF THE
NGM).
DIFFERENCE OF OPINION SEEMS TO REST IN PART ON WHEN AND IF THE LOW
LEVEL CONVERGENCE ALONG THE FRONTAL FEATURES WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR
PRECIP DEVELOPMENT. AS EXPECTED FROM QPF PROGS...THE NGM HAS THE
BEST CONVERGENCE DURING THE DAY FRIDAY...WHILE THE ETA AND
ESPECIALLY THE AVN...SET THINGS UP FOR FRIDAY NIGHT. A LOOK AT THE
ETA 300K SFC...WHICH FALLS BETWEEN 850 AND 700 MB...ALSO SHOWS THE
BEST ISENTROPIC PRESSURE ADVECTION ALONG THE WARM FRONT FRIDAY
NIGHT. AM LEANING TOWARD THE AVN/ETA SOLN AND PLAN TO KEEP FRIDAY
DRY DURING THE DAY. BASED ON THE POSITION OF THE WARM FRONT
RELATIVE TO THE FEATURES MENTIONED ABOVE...THE ETA QPF SOLN LOOKS
BEST FOR FRIDAY NIGHT. WITH MOST OF THE ETA ACTIVITY STAYING TO THE
NORTH AND WEST...THIS WOULD ALSO MEAN KEEPIuNG A DRY FCST.
NO CHANGES ARE PLANNED FOR EXTENDED.
