SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DETROIT/PONTIAC MI 1030 AM EDT SUN JUL 1 2001 SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWS THE COLD FRONT NOW INTO NW OHIO THIS MORNING WITH STRONG COLD AND DRY ADVECTION WORKING IN FROM NORTHERN LOWER. THE UPPER LOW WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE LOWER GREAT LAKES WITH ENOUGH LIFT TO FORCE SCATTERED SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE 850 FRONT. A FEW OF THESE MAY LINGER INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON AROUND THE DETROIT AREA. OVER THE REST OF SE MICHIGAN, THE INITIAL DECREASE IN CLOUDINESS WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH SUBSIDENCE DUE TO COLD ADVECTION AND THE DEPARTING UPPER LOW. SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS SOME CU REFORMING OVER UPPER AND NORTHERN LOWER MI AS THE SYNOPTIC SCALE SUBSIDENCE DECREASES. EXPECT THE SAME TO OCCUR IN OUR AREA WITH INSTABILITY CU REFORMING INTO A PARTLY SUNNY SKY BY MID AFTERNOON. WILL HAVE TO BACK OFF ON HIGH TEMPS AS SURFACE OBS ARE ONLY IN THE MID AND UPPER 50S IN THE SAGINAW VALLEY AND THUMB AT PRESS TIME. READINGS REBOUNDING BACK INTO THE MID 60S WILL BE ABOUT IT, ESPECIALLY AFTER CU FORMS UP AROUND MID AFTERNOON AND CUTS BACK ON SURFACE HEATING.
