WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL 1254 PM EDT SAT JUN 30 2001 NEAR TERM AN EASTERLY WAVE IN THE EASTERN GULF IS MOVING VERY LITTLE TODAY. CONVECTION IS ON THE INCREASE AND AN UPPER LOW OVER THE WESTERN GULF IS DRIFTING TO THE SOUTH APPARENTLY ENHANCING DIFLUENCE IN THE AREA. WE WILL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE TO OUR WEST DUE TO ITS POTENTIAL EFFECT ON OUR COASTAL FORECAST...BUT DEEP LAYER EASTERLY FLOW IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE AT LEAST THROUGH MID WEEK THE SYSTEM SHOULD CONTINUE ITS TREK ACROSS THE GULF OF MEXICO. OVER THE LONGER TERM TWO SYSTEMS WILL BE INFLUENCING OUR WEATHER. THE FIRST IS A TUTT LOW CUTTING OFF EAST OF THE BAHAMAS. I LIKE THE WAY THE AVN HANDLES THIS THE BEST BUT WITH THE CAVEAT THAT MODELS ARE NOTORIOUSLY POOR WITH HANDLING THESE SYSTEMS. STILL THE BEST GUESS IS THAT THE UPPER LOW WILL DRIFT SOUTH WEST ACROSS CUBA AND INTO THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN...KEEPING FLORIDA IN ITS SUBSIDENT SIDE. THIS WILL EFFECTIVELY LESSEN CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT STARTING MONDAY. BUT OUR AREA MAY BE A LITTLE FAR WEST TO BE GREATLY INFLUENCED BY THE SYSTEM...AT LEAST MONDAY. THE WAVE IN THE GULF MY ALSO INFLUENCE THE WEATHER...PERHAPS PRODUCING A LITTLE SUBSIDENCE OF ITS OWN...OR IT COULD ENHANCE LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE OVER THE AREA. A LOT OF IFS...SO I WILL TREND TOWARDS A BLEND OF PERSISTENCE AND CLIMATOLOGY. THE SECOND SYSTEM INFLUENCING OUR WEATHER IS A VERY DEEP LONGWAVE TROUGH DIGGING SOUTH ALONG THE EAST COAST BY MID WEEK OR SO. THIS WILL BRING A SLOW MOVING/STALLING FRONT TO TO STATE PLUS WESTERLY FLOW. I WILL REWORD THE EXTENDED FORECAST FOR MOSTLY MORNING CONVECTION AND INCREASE OVERNIGHT LOW TEMPERATURES JUST A HAIR. MARINE AND FIRE WEATHER...JUST IN A WATCH MODE ON THE WAVE IN THE GULF. I AM NOT REALLY EXPECTING IT TO HAVE MUCH INFLUENCE OVER THE MARINE FORECAST IN THE SHORT TERM.
