AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
310 PM EDT SUN JUL 15 2001

SURFACE TROUGH AND ASSOCIATED WEAK SURFACE LOW OVER SOUTH FLORIDA
THIS AFTERNOON WILL BEGIN TO MOVE NORTH THIS EVENING AND WILL BE
ACROSS CENTRAL FLORIDA BY MONDAY. THE SURFACE LOW WILL LIKELY
DISSIPATE AS ANOTHER MORE DEFINED LOW DEVELOPS OVER THE GULF OF MEX
JUST SOUTHWEST OF THE AREA. THIS LOW WILL MOVE VERY SLOWLY ALMOST
DUE NORTH AND BY TUE MORNING IT WILL BE ABOUT 100-200 NM SOUTH OF
THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE. AS THIS HAPPENS THE ATLANTIC RIDGE...NOW OVER
CENTRAL BAHAMAS SHOULD DRIFT NORTH AS WELL AND BY TUE MORNING IT
WILL EXTEND WEST TO LAKE OKEECHOBEE AREA. THIS WILL RESULT IN LOW
LEVEL FLOW SHIFTING FROM MOSTLY SOUTHWEST TONIGHT AND MONDAY TO A
MORE SOUTHEAST FLOW MON NITE THROUGH TUE.

IN TERMS OF PRECIPITATION...SURFACE BOUNDARY ACROSS THE AREA AND
UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE MAKE ME KEEP SCATTERED SHWRS/TSTMS OVER OUR AREA
THIS EVENING WITH A DECREASE AFTERWARDS. MONDAY...DIURNAL HEATING
WILL PROVIDED THE ENERGY NEEDED TO INITIATE AND MAINTAIN CONVECTION.
THE LOW LEVEL FLOW WILL PROVIDE ABUNDANT MOISTURE. CONDITIONS WILL
THEN RETURN TO MORE "NORMAL" CONDITIONS FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.
NIGHTTIME/EARLY MORNING EAST COAST SHOWERS/TSTMS AND MOSTLY INTERIOR
AFTERNOON TSTMS.

MARINE WISE...WITH THE TROUGH/LOW OVER THE AREA ONCE AGAIN IT WAS
NECESSARY TO SEPARATE THE NORTHERN ATLANTIC WATERS FROM THE
SOUTHERN ATLANTIC. AS THE SURFACE WINDS OVER THE AREA ARE NOT ONLY
GOING TO BE FROM DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS BUT ALSO DIFFERENT SPEED. IT
ISN'T UNTIL THE FOURTH PERIOD THAT CONDITIONS WILL BE MORE OR LESS
THE SAME OVER THE WHOLE AREA. NEVERTHELESS...WINDS AND SEAS SHOULD
BE BELOW SCEC/SCA CRITERIA FOR THE WHOLE FORECAST PERIODS.

EXTENDED...ATLANTIC RIDGE SHOULD CONTINUE TO DRIFT NORTH AND WILL BE
JUST NORTH OF THE AREA FOR MOST OF THE EXTENDED PERIOD.
HOWEVER...AVN FORECAST ANOTHER FRONTAL TROUGH TO EXTEND FROM JUST
EAST OF N. CAROLINA TO SE GA/NE FL BY FRI. THIS WILL RESULT IN SW
WINDS OVER OUR AREA ONCE AGAIN.
