INTERIOR CENTRAL CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY - HANFORD CA
246 PM PDT TUE SEP 4 2001

FORECAST CONCERN REVOLVES AROUND COOLER TEMPERATURES THE NEXT COUPLE OF
DAYS.

EAST PAC TROUGH EXTENDING FROM BRITISH COLUMBIA TO 35N140W SLATED TO
MOVE ASHORE ACROSS THE PAC NORTHWEST WEDNESDAY. MEANWHILE THE UPPER HIGH
OVER BAJA CALIF IS FORECAST TO REMAIN IN PLACE. ONSHORE GRADS WILL
TIGHTEN WEDNESDAY AND THE MARINE LAYER WILL DEEPEN AS 500 MB HEIGHTS
LOWER 30-40 METERS PER THE MODELS. COMBINATION OF SYNOPTIC COOLING AND A
MARINE PUSH SHOULD BRING SUBSTANTIAL COOLING TO THE CWFA...ESPECIALLY
THE VALLEY. ONSET OF THE MARINE INFLUX WILL BE TRICKY BUT THE CENTRAL
VALLEY SHOULD BEGIN TO FEEL THE EFFECTS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. LOCALLY
WINDY CONDITIONS LIKELY TO DEVELOP THROUGH PACHECO AND TEHACHAPI PASSES
THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. BREEZY TO LOCALLY WINDY CONDITIONS ACROSS THE
DESERT AS WELL.

UPPER TROUGH MOVES ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN THURSDAY ALLOWING FOR SOME
HEIGHT RECOVERY ACROSS THE CWFA. EXPECT NEAR PERSISTENCE TEMPS FOR THE
HIGHER ELEVATIONS IN THE SIERRA NEVADA THURSDAY. COOLER AIR SHOULD BE
TOO DEEP IN THE VALLEY TO BE MIXED OUT SO WILL TREND TEMPERATURES DOWN A
LITTLE MORE.

IN THE EXTENDED TIME FRAME...SHORTWAVE RIDGE FORECAST TO BUILD OVER THE
AREA FRIDAY AND SATURDAY FOR SOME TEMP RECOVERY. MODELS THEN TREND
TOWARD A BROAD TROUGH ALONG THE WEST COAST FOR CONTINUED ONSHORE FLOW
AND BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. FORECAST WILL REMAIN DRY THOUGH DUE TO
LACK OF ANY SIGNIFICANT MOISTURE TAP.

.HNX...NONE.
