Summary of events for July 9 2000:An upper level disturbance clipped the northern mountains of Washington, causing a broad area of thunderstorms to develop early on the afternoon of July 9 along the Cascade East Slopes and near the Okanogan Valley. This area of thunderstorms strengthened as it moved east, causing significant amounts of hail and locally excessive rainfall in parts of Ferry and Stevens Counties. The thunderstorms weakened as they entered eastern Stevens County. This weakening sent an outflow boundary across Pend Oreille County, where the wind caused damage near Cusick.

2 thunderstorm wind, 1 hail, 1 flash flood. Local standard time, as filed.
Pea-sized hail covered Cache Creek Road to a depth of one inch, causing cars to slide off the road.
Marble to dime-sized hail covered the ground to a depth of up to five inches. The hail cover was so thick that it took until late the next morning for the hail to completely melt from the ground.
Over 1.8 inches of rain fell in less than one hour, washing out several driveways and submerging a bridge along a secondary roadway when a creek rose quickly from the heavy rain.
Thunderstorm winds blew over about 25 pine trees. One of the trees fell onto a trailer, causing significant damage to the trailer. One woman received an indirect injury when she tripped over a fence while running from the stand of falling trees.
