Thunderstorms produced heavy rainfall across a portion of northern Virginia between 1 and 7 AM EDT and again between 5 and 7 PM on the 2nd. The Shenandoah Valley received heavy downpours during the morning event. in Nelson County, flooding was reported from Montebello eastward. A rain gauge in town recorded a total of 4.17 inches. Other rainfall reports included 2.72 inches on Afton Mountain and 1.58 inches at Tye River. Across Augusta County, 2.56 inches fell at Upper Sherando, 2.49 inches fell at Hearthstone Lake, 2.32 inches fell at Mills Creek Dam, 2.12 inches fell at Jones Hollow, and 1.72 inches fell at Elkhorn Lake. In Rockingham County, 1.88 inches was reported at Briery Branch. In Shenandoah County, 2,21 inches fell at Camp Roosevelt. In Warren County, 2.10 inches of rain was reported on Hogback Mountain. In Rappahannock County, 1.99 inches fell in Sperryville. The Washington D.C. suburbs received heavy downpours during the afternoon event. Minor flooding was reported in the vicinity of Commonwealth Avenue, Reed Avenue, and Glebe Road in Alexandria. A total of 1.65 inches of rain fell at Washington National Airport in Arlington County. Highland County reported occasional heavy downpours during the day which resulted in a rainfall total of 1.74 inches in Monterey.
