Heavy rains did fall over parts of deep south Texas during the early part of June. Rainfall that occurred on June 9 and 10th, came from the first tropical depression of the year. Although some of these rainfall amounts were heavy, they continued to be scattered in areal coverage. There were several locations that reported below normal rainfall. For example, the following were the rainfall deficits for June: Brownsville 1.88 inches, Port Mansfield 1.77 inches, Raymondville 1.82 inches, and Falcon Dam at 1.03 inches. The rest of June was dry for all of deep south Texas as a strong upper level high pressure ridge built into the region. As a result, moderate drought conditions resumed for all of deep south Texas as subsoil moistures continued to be very low from accumulative deficits over the past year. In addition, the Falcon Lake reservoir level was at 253.60 feet which is nearly 49 feet below the normal conservation level of 302 feet.
