Damaging Winds in Oregon, July 17, 2000
At 1825 PDT, a citizen from Colman Creek called to report that large hail up to 1 inch in diameter had just fallen at her location as a thunderstorm moved through the area. This storm was detected on the WSR-88D and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for the Medford area based on the report and the path indicated by the 88D.

At 1825 PDT, a citizen from Colman Creek called to report that large hail up to 1 inch in diameter had just fallen at her location as a thunderstorm moved through the area. This storm was detected on the WSR-88D and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for the Medford area based on the report and the path indicated by the 88D. When the storm struck South Medford, spotter JA58 reported estimated winds of 40-50 mph, heavy rain, and branches up to 1/2 inch diameter blown off the trees. Soon after this, the storm appeared to split with one portion heading toward Jacksonville and the other heading to the northeast. The storms dissipated rapidly after the split, and no precipitation fell at the airport in North Medford. The warning was cancelled at 1941 PDT. Four wildfires were started by the storm...the largest was about 15 acres while the remaining 3 cumulatively covered about 1/2 acre.
