Tornado and Flash Flooding in Ohio, August 9, 2000

Numerous trees and large limbs were knocked down in many locations across the county, including Hollansburg, New Madison,Versailles, Union City and Arcanum. One tree fell on a house in Arcanum.

Many trees and power lines were blown down across the county. In Piqua alone, at least 130 trees were knocked down, 12 homes damaged severely, and 3 vehicles were nearly destroyed.

A spotter reported a wind gust to 60 mph in Hilliard and dime size hail was reported in Reynoldsburg. A 100 foot tree was knocked down on to a tent at Ohio State University. Four workers were injured.

A thunderstorm remained over the county for nearly two hours producing quarter size hail in Amelia and Batavia, nickel size in Felicity, and hail large enough to knock out windows of a school building in Williamsburg. Trees were also knocked down in various locations across the county.

Severe thunderstorms began and lasted for nearly 3 hours, knocking down numerous trees.

The locations with the most trees down were Madisonville, Hyde Park, Mount Lookout and Mount Washington. Lunken Field Municipal Airport recorded a wind gust to 62 mph during the storm. Also, quarter size hail fell in Colerain and walnut size hail fell in Groesbeck.
