Three to 4 inches of rain fell across the Big Blue River basin over July 4th and 5th. This rainfall eventually made it into the middle part of the Big Blue River, causing the river to go above flood stage at Crete at 1000 pm CST on 7/5/00. The river at Crete crested at 20.93 feet at 1100 pm CST on 7/6/00, and it did not fall below its 18 foot flood stage until 400 pm CST on 7/7/00. At Dorchester, the West Fork of the Big Blue River was above its 15 foot flood stage from 422 am CST 7/5/00 through 238 pm CST on 7/6/00. The river at Dorchester crested at 17.6 feet at 425 pm CST 7/5/00. The flooding on the West Fork and the main stem of the Big Blue River affected mainly just agricultural lowlands.
