A line of severe thunderstorms swept across St. Louis County and City causing some of the worst tree and power line damage in several years. Close to 300,000 people lost power because of the storms. Some power was not restored for 3 days. Vehicles and homes were also damaged because of the downed trees. Major power lines fell across Interstates 64 and 44 trapping people inside their vehicles and closing the highways for several hours. In Brentwood, the roof of a building at a shopping center was blow off and light poles in the parking lot were bent at a 25 degree angle.
