Flooding rains across southeast Minnesota caused the Root River to rise to unprecedented levels. In fact, a record crest of 52.2 feet was recorded at Hokah (Houston County) on June 2. Due to the high water, levees along the river broke, which forced the evacuation of two families near Hokah and Houston (Houston County). Farmland along the river was underwater for several days, resulting in a total loss of crops.
