Lightning struck the Irvin Cobb Apartments, a downtown Paducah landmark formerly known as the Irvin Cobb Hotel. The chimney was struck by lightning, and fallen debris closed a block of South 6th Street. Debris fell through the roof of a ninth-floor apartment, creating a hole through which water leaked.
