The episode as NWS DMX wrote it up.
A dynamic weather situation took place over Iowa during the late afternoon and evening of the 15th. The amount of severe weather was limited due to the lack of moisture however. Strong winds were evident in a strong veering wind profile. Wind speeds were in excess of 100 kts at the 250 mb level from the northwest, while the low level winds were in excess of 30 kts from the south. The sounding profile indicated the lack of low level moisture with an inverted "V" sounding profile. A surface low pressure area moved across the state during the early evening hours. The associated cold front moved across the state, and as it did a narrow line of thunderstorms formed along the front. The storms produced gusty winds, however most were below severe limits. One storm produced winds of 60 MPH in Worth County as it passed south of the town of Kensett. The winds knocked trees down in the area.
The La Crosse radar (KARX), 173 km away, was scanning. The volume nearest the first event began at 23:24 UTC.
