The remnants of a mesoscale convective system dropped southeast from Minnesota and the Dakotas across Northern Iowa during the morning. Due to the time of day and lack of instabiltiy, just an isolated report of severe weather was received. The storms mainly produced heavy rain and vivid lightning to many areas along and north of Interstate 80. Lightning knocked out power to Polar Ice in Cedar Rapids during a youth hockey game. The game was cancelled along with other hockey games and a public skating session in the afternoon. This was done to allow the ice needed time to harden. Operations were restored by evening. The lightning also knocked out communications to the National Weather Service in Davenport.
