Hail and Damaging Winds in Georgia, June 22, 2000

Crawford County 911 reported trees were uprooted on Lower Hartley Bridge Road and Macgregor Circle.

The Peach county 911 center reported large tree limbs were blown down.

The Montgomery county 911 center reported 11 trees down on U.S. 280 east of Mt. Vernon, near McGregor. The Vidalia newspaper reported extensive damage to at least five pecan orchards in McGregor. Some of the trees were completely uprooted. Many of the pecan trees were over 90 years old.

The Crisp county 911 center reported two small trees down west of Coney near Lake Blackshear. One-half inch hail was also reported.

The Sumter county Sheriff reported numerous trees down between Cobb and Blackshear Lake on the Crisp county line. The trees were blocking U.S. Highway 280, and were also reported to be down on some homes and cars in the area.

The Wilcox 911 center reported lots of hail up to the size of dimes.

A McDonough newspaper reported lightning struck the Heritage Bank's Forest Park branch, setting it on fire and destroying the top floor of the building. Three fire firefighters suffered heat and smoke trauma while fighting the fire.

The Jefferson County Emergency Management Coordinator reported trees down on power lines all across the county. In addition, a tree was reported down and blocking Georgia Highway 102 between Avera and Stapleton in the north part of the county.

The public reported mostly dime, but some quarter to golfball size hail in Sofkee near the intersection of U.S. Highway 41 and Georgia Highway 247. The hail cracked a car windshield in the area.

The public reported a tree down on a car on Finneydale Drive.

The Twiggs county 911 center and the public reported trees down on Interstate 16 at Exit 12 near Horseshoe Circle.

The public reported a roof was blown off a mobile home in Perry.

The Houston county 911 center reported trees and power lines down all across the northern part of the county in the Warner Robbins area.

The Laurens county 911 center reported trees down on roads in several towns across the western half of Laurens county, including Dudley, Dexter, Dublin, Cadwell, and Rentz.

The public reported dime size hail 1 mile north of the intersection of Georgia Highway 127 and Moody Road.

An amateur radio operator reported 12 to 15 trees down on Macon highway, U.S. Highway 23/129. One tree was a pecan and the others were pines.

The Washington county 911 center reported trees down on Georgia Highway 272 in Oconee.

The Johnson county 911 center reported trees down on power lines in Wrightsville.

The Wheeler county 911 center reported a traffic light was blown down at the intersection of U.S.Highway 280 and Georgia Highway 126. Also several large limbs were blown down on power lines.

The Toombs county 911 center reported quarter size hail near Vidalia.
