The Rockdale Citizen in Conyers reported that lightning caused an extensive fire to a home in Covington. The lightning came in on a ham radio antenna. It took over 65,000 gallons of water and firefighters from seven different communities to battle a 4-alarm blaze set by the lightning. The house was a total loss with $300,000 estimated damages to the structure alone and another $200,000 in damages to contents. The house also contained a dental office.
