About a dozen wildfires burned in various locations in south Dade as east winds gusting near 30 mph quickly spread the flames. None of the fires exceeded 100 acres but a nursery was destroyed and several homes were threatened.

Smoke caused the closing of the Florida Turnpike Extension and the Don Shula Expressway for several hours.
