Widely scattered thunderstorms developed ahead of a warm front in Litchfield County during the afternoon of August 5. One of the storms became locally severe as it produced wind gusts strong enough to knock numerous trees and power lines down in the town of Litchfield. The hardest hit area was at the Rose Haven Rest Home on North Street in Litchfield. A utility pole with a transformer attached to it smashed through the roof of a Subaru car. Also, a tree crushed the hood of a Toyota Camry at the retirement home.
