Lightning caused a brush fire on the Naval Bombing range south of Boradman that burned more than 30,000 acres. Strong shifting wind, difficult terrain, and heavy brush hampered fire fighting efforts. One hundred fifty Naval and civilian fire fighters fought the fire.
