The hottest temperatures of the summer occurred. Readings reached the mid and upper 90s. Preliminary cooperative observations had 97 degrees as a maximum temperature on the 14th for Athens and Waterloo, Carpenter had 92 degrees, Marietta and Jackson recorded 95. New Lexington reached 92 degrees. The dry weather pattern during the late summer contributed to this unusual mid September heat.
