A strong cold front was moving south across lower Michigan. A squall line developed along the front, and wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph were common with this line of thunderstorms.

A strong cold front was moving south across lower Michigan. A squall line developed along the front, and wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph were common with this line of thunderstorms. One cell in Livingston County became much more potent than the others, producing numerous reports of dime to quarter sized hail in and around Howell. A spotter also reported large limbs downed in Howell. The same storm produced dime sized hail in Brighton. Later in the morning, another storm in the line downed large tree limbs in Monroe.
