Hail and Damaging Winds in Illinois, June 29, 1998
Thunderstorms brought strong winds and heavy rain to parts of northeast and east central Illiniois. A 67 mph wind gust was reported at Sandwich Airport in De Kalb County and a 68 mph gust was reported by a spotter in Streator, La Salle County.

Thunderstorms brought strong winds and heavy rain to parts of northeast and east central Illiniois. A 67 mph wind gust was reported at Sandwich Airport in De Kalb County and a 68 mph gust was reported by a spotter in Streator, La Salle County. In La Salle County tree limbs and power lines were damaged in Ottawa, Marseilles, Utica, Serena, Newark and Streator. Quarter sized hail was reported by Skywarn spotters in northern Kankakee County. Strong winds in Peotone in Will County overturned a horse trailer and downed trees. In Livingston County the roof of an old building was torn off in Cornell and the roof of Salem Children's Home was damaged in Flanagan. Trees were also knocked down. Tree limbs were downed in Coal City and Wilmington in southeast Grundy County and southwest Will County. Trees were blown down in Melvin and Gibson in Ford County. In Melvin a tree fell on a propane tank. The storms also produced very heavy rainfall. In Morris 2 inches of rain fell in 30 minutes causing flooding of raods and low lying areas. Several buildings and vehicles were flooded.
