An area of low pressure moved across southern Quebec on Saturday, August 16, 1997 while the associated cold front moved into northern New York Saturday evening, August 16, 1997. Thunderstorms moved across the area with heavy rain and locally strong winds. Trees and power lines were blown down in Hammond, Canton and Oswegatchie in St. Lawrence County NY and at Saranac Lake in Franklin County NY.
