Severe thunderstorms developed along the north edge of a very warm unstable airmass during the early morning on the 16th. One storm did 50,000 dollars worth of damage to a campground near route 12 outside of Cement City.

Severe thunderstorms developed along the north edge of a very warm unstable airmass during the early morning on the 16th. One storm did 50,000 dollars worth of damage to a campground near route 12 outside of Cement City. Campgrounds in the area were full that morning, since a race was scheduled for later in the day at the Michigan International Speedway, just across the county-line in Brooklyn. Another storm uprooted several tree south of Temperance. One of the trees fell on a tent, injuring a 36 year-old woman and her 4 year-old daughter. The 4 year-old suffered a fractured skull, and was rushed to a hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
