Lightning injured a man while talking on the telephone. The bolt passed through the phone line burning his ear. He received minor injuries.
Two plumbers were injured, one critically, when lightning struck a pipe they were working on in a building under construction. The bolt apparently hit one man in the hand, it then passed through his chest and struck the other worker. The critically injured man died a few days later.
Two search and rescue volunteers were injured while rescuing a skier atop Peak 10 at Breckenridge Ski Area. Lightning struck the first man as he was towing the injured skier by snowmobile and toboggan. The bolt struck the snowmobile, then the rescuer. He received minor burns to his eyes. The other rescuer was injured 1/4 mile away. Apparently the ground current created by the lightning travelled up his ski pole. He suffered temporary dizziness as a result of the strike.
Lightning struck a security guard at the Castle Pines Golf Course. He received minor injuries.
Powerful thunderstorm winds lifted two barns from their foundations and levelled them. In addition, two grain bins were damaged, power poles and lines were downed causing scattered outages around the area. Several automobiles and other structures were damaged by falling trees. Heavy rain associated with the storms also caused localized flooding problems. Approximately 30,000 acres of crops in Morgan County were damaged. Corn crops experienced a 10 percent loss, beet and alfalfa crops incurred a 5 percent loss.
A tornado touched down near Parker, damaging some construction equipment. The length and path of the storm was approximated.
Large hail knocked out several windows.
