Damaging Wind in Oklahoma, August 17, 1996
Isolated severe thunderstorms developed in northeast Oklahoma during the afternoon of August 17th. Strong thunderstorm winds downed several large trees and knocked over a heavy outdoor table in Pawnee, and thunderstorm winds gusted to 70 to 80 miles an hour just southwest of Pawhuska.

Isolated severe thunderstorms developed in northeast Oklahoma during the afternoon of August 17th. Strong thunderstorm winds downed several large trees and knocked over a heavy outdoor table in Pawnee, and thunderstorm winds gusted to 70 to 80 miles an hour just southwest of Pawhuska. 70 mile an hour winds in Pawhuska downed trees up to 18 inches in diameter which blocked roads, and numerous power lines and some power poles were also blown down in Pawhuska. Windows were blown out of the Department of Human Services building in Pawhuska, and 1 person was hospitalized after his car was blown off the road in Pawhuska. Hail up to golfball size also fell in Pawhuska.
