Frequent cloud to ground lightning caused power outages to about 4,000 homes in central Morris County. Hardest hit were Morris Plains, Parsippany, Rockaway and Wharton. A power outage at the water treatment plant in Boonton forced 250,000 people to boil their water before using it in Hudson County.
